Step 9. If someone invented a new camera, what lens would they use?


It is quite clear that we should forget about all patented options for connecting camera and lenses of the last decades. Even huge corporations find it impossible to restart production. (Let’s wait for the results of Pentax’s resumption of production. They recently announced this and much is still unclear.)

I believe it is possible today to produce cameras to standards that are open. These are old standards where there is actually only a lens mount and no communication between the lens and the camera. There is no transfer of lens parameters, no transfer of aperture value data. This does not make possible to make a camera with full automatic mode and shutter speed priority. However, in this case, we can make a camera with metering at the working aperture and manual (or automatic) setting of the shutter speed using pre-set aperture value.
